I'm working on about 11 hours sleep in the last 60 hours. I'll try to recap the events of the last three days. It won't be particularly funny.
This Saturday I performed at the Hyatt in Bethesda. It was a really good show. I was very happy with my set. Lisa Lanham, who's fairly new to comedy, was on the bill. She has some quality jokes. She also seems as if she's herself on stage. Very sincere. I can certainly see her becoming a really solid comic if she keeps at it.
Showing up about 3 minutes before getting on stage was Danny Rouhier. This was the first time I have seen Danny do a 20+ set. He destroyed. He's got a great device he uses where he beats himself up for taking a joke in a direction he shouldn't have. This is obviously deliberate, but it seems really natural and it's hilarious. I am really envious of comics that can do things that I just flat out can't do. I have difficulty when I have to be anyone other than Joe Robinson. Meaning, if I'm telling a joke where dialogue is coming from another person, it is awkward for me. Danny can morph into anyone. It gives him ridiculous range. I have a reputation for being overly critical of comics that I believe are wasting the time of the audience and the other comics. That is not a particularly endearing quality, however, on the flip side I believe this area has great talent and I see at least 10 comics from this area that have the potential to make a career out of being funny. Danny, you just made the list.
Sunday the Baltimore Comedy Factory hosted my CD release party. I'll
refrain from being nauseatingly complimentary, but it was a great show.
We had about 150 people in the house (100 paid, you cheap bastards).
Thanks to the comics that performed and those of you who came out.
